THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET

BASIC SITUATION: This story takes place at Mango Street. The main character, Esperanza starts describing her other homes before she moved into Mango Street. She liveswith her parents and with her brother and sisters: Carlos, Kiki and Nenny. They had always wanted to live in a big white house with at least three washrooms; a great backyard and running water and pipesthat worked. But instead of that they moved to a small red house with a broken door; with no front yard and only one washroom and one bedroom.

EVENTS: Esperanza narrates her daily life. She hadmany problems getting a good friend. She would like a friend that she can talk to and share things because she didn’t want to be bored all the time. Her first friend was Cathy, but she wasn’t a goodfriend because she was a selfish girl. Then she met Lucy and Rachel, and they became very good friends. Later someone new; Meme Ortiz, who became Esperanza’s new neighbor after Cathy’s family moved awayfrom the neighborhood. After that she met Louie and his cousins Marin and the other one. At that time, Esperanza lived a good time there on Mango Street meeting too much people. But she also had badtimes, like when she got into troubles because she ate at her school without permission from the Sister superior. Or when, an old man abused of her on her first job by kissing her by force on the mouth.She passed too much things there in Mango Street.

CLIMAX: The climax of this story happens when one day Esperanza goes to a carnival with her friend Sally. Later, Sally got into a ride but whenthe ride ends, she goes away with an older boy instead of going to Esperanza. While she waits for Sally, some older guys went to abuse of her, leaving her traumatized, by the way they mistreated herand spoke to her.

RESOLUTION: It ends by Esperanza telling she likes to tell stories. She says that one day will pack her bag of books and will say goodbye to Mango Street. But, her friend,...
