9. READING: music and the brain
A. Read the text about music and reflect about it.
Music and the Brain 11
Let me begin with a personal reflection. I think the human brain has a mission that sets it apart from other species. Our brain mission is to create. All ultures and forthousands of years in the beginning of our history as a species have needed to carve, aint, sing or tell beautiful stories.
Unfortunately we need to eat and for that, hunting orwork, health and for that we need doctors, nurses ... we need to take shelter or harbor, and that makes 'distracted' our brain to its main function while retaining the need to be creative in our work.
At present weignore the "biological purpose" music has probably fundamental biological function is social cohesion and its advantage is not individual but the collective (1). Although only a few individuals become expert musicians all have experience of it, even to become avid listeners since childhood. Barquero Jiménez, M. S. Música y Cerebro [en línea].
