The Right Preparation for Upper Education
Right now, as a college student, I do not feel really prepared to be at this level of education. When I was in high school, most of the time I felt thatthe professors never helped me to obtain the necessary skills for my upper level education. A few days ago, when I started to read “An Open Letter to Night Graders,” by Patrick Sullivan, I learned themost basic skills for a student to become successful at college.
On this article, Patrick tries to help students with some fundamentals tips based on the book called “The Seven Habits of HighlyEffective People”. He does this by listing and describing a little bit about each area. The tips on the article are: Reading, Writing, Thinking, Listening, “Grit,” Attitude toward College and DeterminingReadiness. Patrick assures that by doing this it is more likely to overcome the difficulties at a college. Therefore, I agree with his point of view.
My thoughts on this paper were that the sevenideas that Sullivan offers to be success at college are perfect. There are some people who just think only that some of these are important to increase your abilities to pass, but college is not justabout knowing or having the ability to read, write, think and listen well. Also you need to have the other three complements that Sullivan offers like points because “grit, attitude toward college anddetermining readiness”, are the little pieces that can help any student to do better at this upper level education.
Frequently I feel that the professors want or think that we are ready to collegeand they thought we know the things we are doing, and this is because we were supposedly prepared a little bit in high school. In my point of view thanks to this article a feel more prepared to continuewith my college education and this is because I understand and learn some tips on the skills that I am not very good as reading and writing and as Sullivan said “you have four years to work on...
