Summary of plot.
The story starts out with the family Bennet seeking marriage for the daughters. In the neighborhood where they live, Mr. Bingley (a rich man) arrives and he develops an interest for Jane (the eldest and very beautiful daughter). Mrs. Bennet is so glad and she is happy when Jane has to remain atthe Bingley home after getting sick while visiting (it is an awkward situation for her family and the other people). While Mr. Bingley is calm and kind, his sisters are snobbish and Mr. Darcy, a handsome, rich and friend of Mr. Bingley, behaves unpleasantly towards the family Bennet (because they have a different social class). When they are at the ball, Mr. Bingley suggests that Mr. Darcy dancewith Elizabeth Bennet and he answers, “she is not enough pretty for me.” They have this conversation too near to Elizabeth, who hears all of it.

All people know that Mr. Bingley feels something for Jane Bennet but she hides her excitement with a calm attitude. Elizabeth talks with her friend Charlotte Lucas about this, and she says that Jane should demonstrate affection to him. Mr. Bingley’ssister invites Jane to have lunch, who rides the family horse in the rain (because her mother wants this). She arrives wet and she becomes sick, and has to remain at the Bingley home. Elizabeth decides to go to the Bingley home and check on her. During Elizabeth’s visit, Mr. Darcy comes to feel something about Elizabeth, but she thinks he is an idiot.

In Longbourn (Bennet’s house), Mr. Collinsgoes to visit them. He is a family relative of Mr. Bennet and because of English inheritance laws, Mr. Collins will inherit Mr. Bennet’s house when he dies. Mr. Collins wants to marry one of his daughters to keep the house. He likes Elizabeth but she thinks he is disgusting. Elizabeth and her sisters meet Mr. Wickham who becomes a friend to Elizabeth. He tells her that Mr. Darcy destroyed his dreamsand opportunities. Elizabeth believes him.

The girls Bennet receive an invitation to a ball in Netherfield, the Bingley home and Elizabeth is excited. She wants to dance with Mr. Wickham but he does not go so she dances with Mr. Darcy and with Mr. Collins, whose dance style is horrible. The family Bennet embarrasses Elizabeth, because her mother says that Mr. Bingley is going to propose toJane, Mary shows her lack of musical talent, and Lydia and Kitty flirt with the soldiers. Next morning, Mr. Collins asks to Elizabeth’s hand in marriage, but she rejects his proposal.

Jane receives a letter from Ms. Bingley and it says that his family is going to London and also says that Mr. Bingley is falling in love of Mr. Darcy’s sister. Jane believes Ms. Bingley has written this letter out offriendship.

Then Elizabeth receives a new notice, Charlotte Lucas (her friend) is going to marry with Mr. Collins, because she does not have many opportunities for marriage and in her family there is not much money. Later Elizabeth decides to go to visit Charlotte and she looks glad. During the visit they receive an invitation to Rosing Parks, home to Lady Catherine. Elizabeth learns that LadyCatherine is the aunt to Mr. Darcy. Lady Catherine asks Elizabeth a lot of questions, but she is able to control her. Here, she sees Mr. Darcy and they have another conversation. He often visits Lady Catherine and her daughter, but it is confusing, because he is quiet and does not look glad. Elizabeth hears that Mr. Bingley was going to ask to Jane’s hand in marriage, but Mr. Darcy intervened. Herhatred increases but in this moment Mr. Darcy decides to ask Elizabeth’s hand in marriage. He says that despite the fact that his family is better, he realized that he loves Elizabeth. She says no because he is arrogant and she thinks it is not a good way to ask her. Next day Mr. Darcy gives her a letter about the history of Mr. Wickham (he is a liar and tried to run away with Mr. Darcy’s...
