Progress of transport in Chile.
Because of the geography features of the country, the transport is most important , because this is very long.
In the country there a 127 heliports and 347aerial runways, the most important of that, are: “Chacalluca” of Arica, “Diego Aracena” of Iquique, Cerro Moreno of Antofagasta, Carriel sur of Concepcion, in these the traffic of people is approximatelyof 12.105.524 passengers in 2011.
In 2011 the system of railways had a 7.082 km of extension. The railroads lines before crossed a big part of country and allowed the development of country, wereused for the transport freight to the ports.
Since the 1990 has lived the process of the restoration of the train, restoring the passenger’s service of the “Empresa de los ferrocarriles delestado”(this is the name) between Santiago and Puerto Montt. But the system of urban railways has expanded, opening a new system: “Biotrén” (1999) and “Metro Valparaíso” (2005).
About roads on 2010 Chile hada extension of 77.763,74 km, of these; 17.835, 57 were ground, 18.147,42 were paved and 32.720,02 were of gravel.
From mid 1990, these roads have greatly improved, due to a process of purchasesthat allowed the construction of new highways to international level, the most important of these is the “Carretera Panamericana” that runs Chile between Arica and the Chiloe island, the routes betweenSantiafgo, Valparaiso and “Litoral central” and an urban motorway network Santiago, inaugurated between 2004 and 2006. Another via important is the “Carrera Austral” connecting “Aysén” whit the restof the country although is cut for use these sections as ferries.
The steps of “Tambo quemado” and “Chacalluta” are connections whit Bolivia and Perú in northern, while whit Argentina there aremany more, the most important of there is “Cristo Redendor” , between “Los andes” and “Mendoza”.
