Psychological needs of the adolescent

The emotional life of the adolescent is greatly enriched during these secondary school years because during this stage of his development he experiences anincreasing number of stimuli that did not arouse him a few years earlier. The mauring of his physical, intellentual. Emotional and spiritual life provides a challengue to the secondary school teacher.this challengue is being met by the application of psychological principles in the teaching-learming situation
Adolescent Drives. every adolescent has potent dynamic drives that serve as strongmotivating forces. They influence his thoughts, his attitudes, his emotions, and his overt behavior. Some of these driver grow out of physical, life-sustaining needs; others are acquired throughexperience. The adolescent has inner desires of desires for social recognition and approval. Whether his overt behavior is motivated by inner drives or by social factors, there always in an impulse towardaction. His overt behavior usually reflects the impact of all of the influences that affect him at one time. In general, the adolescent strives to satisfy organic needs, to achieve a constructive goal orpurposc, or to gain social prestige. The teacher nees to recognie the nature and strength of drives and direct the energy of the adolescent in such a way as not to injure him or the society in which helives. The adolescent needs help to control the sex urge which is one of the strongest and most important influences in his psychic life. Conflicts arise between expression of this urge and therestrictions and inhibitions of social conventions and moral codes. The persistency of the sex drive makes necessary a psychological development of the individual for the good of himself and of society.Psychological Considerations.
