Day 2: Thursday 2, September 2010

Transfer out to Lima airport.
Arrival in Arequipa. Reception and assistance.
H/D CITY TOUR+ SANTA CATALINA CONVENT
Today you will have a half-day tour of the city of Arequipa that lies at the foot of the beautiful extinct "Misti" volcano. On the main square, the Plaza de Armas, you will see the Cathedral with its Carrara marble altar, the huge Belgian organ and the magnificent pulpit, carved in Lille, France. You will then continue on to the Jesuit church of La Compañia with itsbeautifully painted chapel and carved volcanic stone arcades. The highlight of the tour is a visit to the Santa Catalina convent. This convent, closed to the public for almost 400 years until 1970, is still home to a few cloistered nuns. The tour provides an insight as to the isolated lives the nuns, mostly daughters of the wealthy Spanish nobility, led in this attractive setting with its quaint narrowstreets and courtyards.

Day 3: Friday 3, September 2010

Today you will be picked up from your hotel early in the morning for the scenic bus ride to the Colca Canyon. On leaving Arequipa you will drive through the Aguada Blanca National Reserve where you will see herds of llamas and alpacasgrazing. After 4 hours you will reach the beginning of the Colca Canyon with its green valleys and Andean terraces. A box lunch will be provided. Your journey will end at your Hotel

Day 4: Saturday 4, September 2010

2D/1N COLCA CANYON
Second Day After breakfast, an early morning departure for the drive to the "Condor Cross", thebest point for a breathtaking view of the Colca Canyon with the Colca river flowing 1,200 meters below and the majestic condors in flight above. Visit the Hanging Tombs at Choquetico before continuing on to the towns of Maca, Achoma and Yanque with its lovely white church. Return to Chivay for lunch before driving to your hotel in Arequipa.

Day 5: Sunday 5, September 2010

You will have a guided visit to the famous pre - inca tombs of Sillustani on the way, located on the shores of the solitary Umayo Lagoon, these tombs or "Chullpas" with circular shaped towers were a cemetery for the religious leaders ofTiawanacu Culture, almost 2000 years ago.

Day 6: Monday 6, September 2010

A 3 hour boat trip on Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, will take you to the Island of Taquile. To reach the hub of the island one must make a strenuous climb of 600 stone steps but the effort iswell rewarded by the views of the Lake and its surrounding mountains. The people of Taquile are famous for their colorful, fine weavings and their hospitality. On the return trip to Puno you will make a stop on Uros Island, built on layers of the totora reeds, hence the name "floating island". Here the Uros indians live as they have done for generations, seeking out a living by fishing and sellinghandicrafts. You will be given a box lunch on this tour.
