1. Why is Andrew Jackson a populist? What did his policies change in the way politics were run in early 19th century America?
Andrew Jackson is considered a populist because he was the first whowanted to bring the power to the American people for the first time since the revolutionary war and because he was the first elected president who was not part of the aristocracy. He also held events toopen the executive office to the American public and hear out the problems of the common man. Jackson wanted to increase the equality of economic opportunity for all Americans and strengthen theexecutive power. He vetoed more bills in his term of office than all the previous presidents.

2. Define Impressment and how it played a role in the War of 1812.
Impressment was the act of compellingmen into a navy by force and without notice, it was used during the 18th and 19th century in wartime as a tool of recruiting people for warships. This actually played a roll on the war of 1812because of the naopleonic wars that were taking place in Europe. This took out the commercial rights of the United States as a neutral country so Great Britain and France started bringing down the Americancommercial ships. Britain’s recluted by force the crew on those ships and said that they were Englishmen that deserted from the British navy, so they were just taking them back.

3. How didTexas attain independence?
On March 2 of 1836 the Texas declaration of independence was signed but Texas really gain its independence in 1836 when the battle of San Jacinto took place and Santa Anna wasdefeated and captured and they forced him to sign a treaty where he recognized Texas independence.
