Second Chance
In the four stories that we have read so far, some of the characters had a second chance todo different things. In “Thank You Mam”, Roger had a second chance in life, because Mrs. Luella taught him a lesson when she gave himthe money to buy the blue suede shoes that Roger wanted, and saved him from becoming a criminal. In “Seventh Grade”, Victor got a second chance toimpress Teresa, when Mr. Buller didn’t tell the rest of the class that Victor was making up words in French and did not embarrass him in front ofthem and Teresa. In “Zebra”, Zebra also got a second chance when mister Wilson showed him that he could do something else in life, like drawing,instead of just running. In turn, mister Wilson got a second chance himself in life after losing his arm and his friend in the Vietnam War,when he becomes a summer camp art teacher. In the “War of the Wall”, the painter lady got a second chance from all the people in the neighborhoodafter they were shown the painting she did on their wall. The people from the neighborhood were impressed because in her painting she wasdescribing the neighborhood and its history. The narrator’s Mom gave the painter lady a second chance when she told the narrator that the painterlady seemed pretty decent and maybe she was on a diet and she could have it tough maybe she wanted to have her art were people could see it.
