The Shock Doctrine

In the middle of the 1940’s scientific research in psychiatry experimented with the possibility of canceling out the personality of patients in order to build a newone. This process was carried out through drugs and the application of extreme stimuli and sensory shocks, ranging from the exposure to light, sound, temperatures to the use of electric shocks treatmentand the inducement of phobias.
The experiments were not succesful. Patients after treatment were in a state of disorientation and anxiety that in turn generated both total amnesia andsometimes the loss of the will of the person. It was not a result applicable to the psychiatric world, but it came to the attention of the CIA of the United States, who saw the possibilities of thoseexperiments in the application of the processes of torture and submission.
In the late fifties, the agency expanded its scope and enlisted what would become future police officers to take control ofrising nationalist Latin American states. Through these techniques they would were able to control all those elements that they considered subversive.

This happened at the same time that twoevents converged that marked the development of the world as we know it: on one hand, the creation of what would be the international regulatory organizations of finances from seeds: the World-WideBank|Bench (BM) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF)); and on the other hand the development of the extreme liberal and monetarist doctrines of the economist Milton Friedman.

Sponsored by theUnited Nations, the BM and the IMF were created after the Second World War with the aim of restructuring and rebuilding a devastated Europe as well as facilitating trade among the nations. This wastheir initial role that was financed by the great international bankers, obviously for their own interests.
