The American band Linkin Park set out the first project revolution tour. The lineup was meant to bridge the rap- rock divide: it included the veteranhip-hop act Cypress Hill, the nu-metal band Adema, and DJ Z-trip know for his cross-genre mash-ups.

Five years later, the old rap-rock “revolution” seems like ancient history these days when rap androck collide it’s often the rappers doing the cultural appropriation: think of the shop boyz, partying like rock stars; or Gym class heroes, a hip-hop group whit an emo fans; or kanye west , whorecently hired the indie band Peter, Bjorn and John to play backup.

The 2007 project revolution tour, which came to the Nikon at Jones Beach theater here on Wednesday night, didn’t bother more whithip-hop; the other headliner was My Chemical Romance, a band as theatrical as Linkin park. The rice of emo as pulled this tour, and it seems this audience in a different direction. Pulled Linkin park tothe band’s recent album, “Minutes to minding”(Warner brothers)

Linkin park has sold millions of album by being charmless but proficient and on Wednesday the members underscored both extremes. Theylook less like rock and roll royalty and more like a bunch of technocrats; considering the meticulous way they make music, that might be an apt description. The huge refrains of “Numb” , “In the end”and other old hits shook the bleaches as effectively as ever. Some of the more restrained new some.

Still, Linkin Park wasn’t nearly as much fun as My Chemical Romance, the New Jersey band that hasbecome a top seller by evolving from emo tantrums to glam-rock epics.
