I am Cristina Alvarez, I am 24 years old. I was raised and born in a small industrial city at north of Mexico. This part of my country has alwayshad a strong influence of the American culture; this is related to the proximity with the neighboring country. It is common to see on the streets different fast food places, clothing stores, Starbucks,including movie theaters that are American franchises. People from my city including myself tends to dress with American clothing brands, this also can be used like a reference of the high and middleclass in Mexican society.
My family is conform for my Father a 57 years old Chemical Engineer, He was the first member of his family who graduates from university, this career was not his firstoption but he knew that the engineering careers were those that have more demand in that part of Mexico. My mother is 56 year old women dedicated to her family; she comes from a low class familywhere due to the lack of money men had the preference to study professional careers. I have two brothers: Victor and Gustavo. Victor is 30 years old, He is a Chemical Engineer just like my dad, and he isworking for LEGO the Danish toy company. Gustavo is 25 years old; He graduated from medical school one year ago.
I am the only girl and the youngest one in the family this in the verytraditional Mexican culture would means two things: I would be responsible of my parents when they grow old, and I would stop living with them until I get married. My family is really close to each other, evenwhen we are separated by distance, they always want to be informed about anything that is occurring in my life. We are a patriarchal family this means that my dad is the leader, he is the one whomakes the decisions but at the same time he lead us participate in an active form, he likes to hear our opinions. They are really protective and strict with anything related with values.
