INTRODUCTION

This survey is composed of 15 questions. All questions are related to Social Networks and their characteristics in order to know their positioning. We intended to find the kind ofusers that use each social network and what are the users’ concerns and views about them.
The questions we included in the questionnaire are of an exploratory and descriptive nature and they are aimedat discovering ideas and insights of social network users and describing market characteristics and functions.

We considered that descriptive research was the appropriate manner of identifyingthe positioning of social networks. Descriptive research is useful to describe the characteristics of relevant groups, such as consumers, salespeople, organizations, or market areas. It also allows toestimate the percentage of members of a specified population exhibiting a certain behavior.

The questionnaire was designed prior to the formulation of specific hypotheses. It has a structureddesign which is intended to allow us to group and relate specific segments of users (eg: students, teenagers, professionals etc…) to different social networks.

We assumed that older people andprofessionals will have stronger ties to those social networks which enable them to communicate efficiently and maintain and search for contacts useful for them in their personal and professional lives.On the other hand, we thought that teenagers and students search for entertainment and easy communication when entering social networks. This hypothesis relating users to social networks allows us toidentify the positioning of each of the social networks.

Regarding the technical issues of the Marketing Research problem, we intended to find information on attitudes and behavior. We alsoneeded information on respondent age, occupation and interests in order to prove our initial hypothesis and contrast our results. The target population of our survey is males and females aged 14-60....
