THE UNITED NATIONS AND THE KOREAN WAR
How far do sources A-E support the view that, in its dealing with Korea, the United Nations was always the puppet of the United States?
While the end of World War II brought peace and prosperity to most Americans, it also created a highlighted state of tension between USSR and the United States. Fearing that the Soviets intended to "export" communism toother nations, America centered its foreign policy on the containment of communism, both at home and abroad. Although formulation of the Truman Doctrine, Marshall Plan and the Berlin Airlift suggested that the United States had a particular concern with the spread of communism in Europe, America's policy of containment extended to Asia as well. Indeed, Asia proved to be the site of the first majorbattle waged in the name of containment: the Korean War.
Once it developed, a variety of actions were taken in order to prevent further bloodshed and restore peace in the Korean peninsula. USA, USSR and the UN were the most influential forces that intervened in the conflict in matter. As follows, an accurate description of the way in which actions were taken, along with their origins and outcomes, will be presented as an answer of whether the UN was a puppet of the USA or not, according to the sources given.
Notwithstanding the fact that the sources as a whole are not in favor of the statement, by analyzing each and every one of them and taking into account the historical facts as regards the conflict, the UN organization must be considered as a puppet of the USA hugepower.

To begin with, source A can be considered a neutral source due to the fact that instead of making reference to the events that occurred after the development of the war itself in relation to USA's and the UN's intervention, it explains how the conflict started according to the UN's view: it is shown that the USA and the USSR were to be blamed for the "artificial division" ofKorea, as they failed in reaching an agreement over what to do. Moreover, they believed that North Korea made a mistake in not heading elections, because, if they did so, a "unified and independent Korea" would have come into existence, preventing the conflict to arise.
Secondly, as regards the other sources, they can be divided into two main groups: C and D, which provide information thatcontradicts the statement, and B and E, that support it.
On the one hand, source C is a speech given by American President Truman in July 1950, defending USA's intervention. Truman explains that the USA acted in response to USSR's demonstration of willingness to use weaponry to conquer independent nations as well as the fact that the attack was a violation to the UN Charter; that it went against theorganization’s ideology and that it was UN recommended for members to support South Korea in defending its freedom from the Soviet attack. What is more, he states that the intervention happened only after a meeting with the UN Security Council, aimed at deciding how to proceed, was held. Therefore, Truman demarcates USA from all responsibility of acting in seek of its own interests. Notwithstanding,it is said that the USA had already decided on what to do about Korea even before the meeting was held, and that the Security Council accepted USA's proposal of intervention under pressure. The fact that Truman in his speech didn't comment on this makes the situation more suspicious to those who believe that it was this the way it happened. Besides, it should be taken into account that the sourcecomes from the American President himself, making his opinion about the USA biased.
Furthermore, source D is an interview with Dean Acheson (US Foreign Minister) that provides information about the reasons why, from his point of view, to call upon a meeting of the Security Council seemed to be the correct and most sensible decision to make. Firstly, Acheson argues that it was, according to...
