BRAINSTORMING FORMAT:

Speech Topic: Ernst Hemingway was responsible for a revolution in 1920’s literature by developing a recurrent style that would transcend in world-wide literature.

Arguments FOR:

* The Hemingway Code: how was literature before him,his influence in literature since in other authors.
* The Iceberg Theory
* Ability to transform life experiences in pieces of writing for many audiences
* Ability to translate different cultures into one common language: literature (Italy, Paris, Cuba, Africa, Spain, Cuba, Idaho)
Argument AGAINST:
* His code gives way to stereotypes which are a typical toolwithin the English language
* A revolution in the 1920’s where black people and women had no rights as they were viewed as a general subject, would be the separation from stereotypes, not their inclusion.
* Other authors of the time such as Scott Fitzgerald and Gertrude Stein were able to make traits of the 1920’s transcend (the jazz age) and were also members of the “lost generation”* They were also world travelers and their literary works are great because of their experiences.
Possible Hook: Imagine pools of blood, pools of minimalist, concise and genuine blood. Because this is what Hemingway recreates, in his own words: “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” (words pouring out of you, not too literal,)
* If a writer knowsenough about what he is writing about, he may omit things that he knows. The dignity of movement of an iceberg is due to only one ninth of it being above water.
