Finding Spike

Spike was my dog for 1 year; I remember when Lila my mother’s friend gave us the dog. He came in a box and looked so cute because he was so little. The day when we lost Spike wasChristmas Eve. All the family was here and we had the typical Christmas party, but like you know, fireworks make the dogs get scared, Spike was so afraid so my grandmother locked him in the bathroom buthe was still scared. Jorge my brother opened the bathroom door where Spike was, when Jorge opened the door, Spike ran away and in that moment my mother was going to Vera’s house, she opened the gateand she didn’t see Spike running out of the house. My mother was screaming “Spike” at 2:00 am but when I woke up Spike was gone, I can’t do anything, and I don’t know if I will see him again.

IfSpike was in the street what would be his life be like? His life would be bad because the animals need a lot of care; they are like us they need to eat, sleep and are creatures of God like us. We need totake them to the vet because on the street dogs can get diseases like rave or leptospirosis that doctor Ordoñez tell me. Dogs also need love.

Pilar is a lady who loves dogs and she wants to takecare of the dogs, that’s why she created an association to save dogs, named Helping Hands for Hounds of Honduras. When a person wants to adopt a dog Pilar makes sure that the house is safe for the dogand she needs information of the dog every week to know that he is ok. But she doesn’t rescue dogs only; she rescues birds, cats, and other animals.

Animal Protection Association of Honduras is asmall group of persons that protect the animals. Its mission is to take care and protect animals on the street. In Honduras, doesn’t exist a lot of people that love the homeless animals.
