Analysis of tourism resources of the Colonial Zone of Coro, Falcón State,
Municipality of Miranda

Resumen

Abstract

El turismo es una actividadeconómica que genera
importantes recursos para la comunidad receptora. Sin
embargo, de la misma manera que produce efectos positivos, la falta de planificación de esas actividades trae
consigo impactos negativos; tal es el caso de muchos
destinos con vocación turística en Venezuela. En tal
sentido, esta investigación tiene como objetivo analizar
los recursos turísticos existentes en la Zona Colonialde Coro, ubicada en el Municipio Miranda del Estado
Falcón. Esta zona es de gran atractivo turístico puesto
que mantiene características típicas de una ciudad del
siglo XVIII y XIX, pero una deficiente planificación ha
mermado las posibilidades del desarrollo del turismo
en esta jurisdicción del Estado Falcón. La investigación
es de tipo descriptiva con un diseño no experimental;
lapoblación objeto de estudio estuvo integrada por 6
establecimientos de alimentos y bebidas, 2 de alojamiento, 14 atractivos turísticos y la infraestructura que
sirve de soporte para el desarrollo de la actividad turística. Concluye el estudio indicando que se ha generado una importante demanda turística en la Zona
Colonial de Coro, la cual pudiera incrementarse si se
optimara la oferta turística,revalorizando los atractivos
y mejorando la calidad de los servicios (alojamiento,
restauración, entre otros), ya que al momento de planificar, se hace necesario no sólo inventariar los recursos turísticos con que se cuenta, sino también, conocer
las debilidades y fortalezas que los mismos presentan,
para establecer estrategias, programas y acciones necesarias a fin de disminuir las debilidades yaumentar
las fortalezas.

Tourism is an economic activity that generates significant resources to the host community; however, in
the same way that produces positive effects, the lack
of planning generates negative impacts. Such is the
case of many touristic destinations in Venezuela. In that
sense, the aim of this research is to analyze existing
tourism resources in the Colonial Zone ofCoro, located
in the Municipality Miranda, Falcón State. This area is
a major touristic spot since it keeps features which are
typical of a city of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, but poor planning has reduced the possibilities of
tourism development in this jurisdiction of Falcón State.
This is a descriptive research, with a non-experimental
design; the population of the study wascomposed of 6
food establishments, 2 lodgings, 14 tourist attractions
and the infrastructure that supports the development of
tourism. The study concludes by indicating that a significant demand for tourism in the Colonial Zone of Coro
has been generated, which could increase if tourism
offers were optimized, reassessing the attractions and
improving the quality of services (food establishments,lodgings and other), since at the moment of planning, it
is necessary not only an inventory of tourism resources that are available, but also the knowledge of the
weaknesses and strengths that they have in order to
establish the necessary strategies, programs and actions so as to reduce the weaknesses and increase the
strengths.
