Analysis on “Midnight in Paris”

Time, space and the characters are three of the most important elements in novels, films, etc… “Midnight in Paris” remarks thesethree elements in the whole movie.
Gil Pender and his fiancée, Inez, go to Paris with his future in-laws. Gil is a writer who does not accept critics from other people. One day, they go to arestaurant when they meet with some friends of Inez. From there on, they decide to spend time together. They go to the most important places in Paris but one of the friends is very “pedantic”. He is a “knowsit all” kind of person and Gil feels uncomfortable with this. One night, Paul, Inez’ friend, suggests going to dance. Gil does not like the idea but Inez really wants to go to that place so Gil letsher go with Paul and he decides to have a walk around the streets of the beautiful Paris. As he was a little drunk, he gets lost so he decides to stop walking. Then, he hears bells ringing announcingthe midnight, and suddenly, an old car stops in front of him and the people inside invite him to come with them so agrees to go. They take him to a party, but it is not just a party. All the people aredressed like in the ‘20s. Gil is surprised, but at the same time is happy because that is his favorite period of time. A woman starts talking to him and then a man approaches to them. They introducethemselves as Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald. Gil does not believe what is happening. Then he meets Ernest Hemingway and asks him to read his novel. However, Hemingway refuses to do that but tells him thatGertrude Stein might do it.
