Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is a traditional celebration of Anglo-Saxon countries that has been implemented in other countries throughout the twentieth century primarily in the loving couples express their love and affection to each other. Held on February 14, Valentine’s birthday. In some countries is known as Valentine’s Day and in others as the Day of Love and Friendship.
InAnglo-American in 1840, Esther A. Howland began selling the first mass cards, Valentine, known as “valentines” with symbols such as heart or Cupid, but with the rise of the Internet has spread the custom of exchanging virtual postcards. Again it is common to the tradition of giving roses to those people who have a special affection.
There are several theories that give this date the origin of Valentine’sDay. In the Nordic countries is during this time when the birds pair up and mate, hence this period is seen as a symbol of love and creation.
Some believe it is a Christianized pagan festival, as in ancient Rome was made the worship of the god of love, whose Greek name was Eros, whom the Romans called Cupid. This celebration is called for the favors of God through gifts or offerings to achieve andfind the perfect love.

Many think that this day is celebrated recently and emerged in the interest of big malls, but its origins date back to Roman times.
St. Valentine was a priest who exercised to the third century in Rome. Emperor Claudius II ruled, who decided to ban the celebration of marriages for young people, because in his opinion bachelors made better soldiers withoutfamilies, and with fewer strings attached.
The priest felt that the decree was unjust and defied the emperor. Held in secret marriages for young lovers (hence has become popular that Valentine is the patron saint of lovers). The Emperor Claudius found out and as Valentine enjoyed great prestige in Rome, the emperor called him to the Palace. Valentine took that occasion to proselytize the cristianismo.1Although initially showed interest Claudius II, the Army and the Governor of Rome, called Calpurnius, persuaded him to get rid of the cabeza.1
The Emperor Claudius then gave orders to encarcelasen Valentin. Then, the officer Asterius, imprison manager, wanted to ridicule and test Valentin. He challenged them to give back sight to his daughter, named Julia, who was born blind. Valentine acceptedon behalf of the Lord, returned the vista.1
This convulsed Asterius and his family, who converted to Christianity. Anyway, Valentine continued to jail and finally the weak Emperor Claudius ordered that he be martyred and executed on 14 February 270. The young Julia, grateful to the saint, planted an almond tree pink flowers at the graveside. Hence, the almond is a symbol of love and friendshiplasting.

El Día de San Valentín es una celebración tradicional de países anglosajones que se ha ido implantando en otros países a lo largo del siglo XX principalmente en la que las parejas de enamorados expresan su amor y cariño mutuamente. Se celebra el 14 de febrero, onomástico de San Valentín. En algunos países se conoce como Día de los Enamorados y en otros como Día del Amor y laAmistad.
En Angloamericana hacia 1840, Esther A. Howland comenzó a vender las primeras tarjetas postales masivas de San Valentín, conocidas como «valentines», con símbolos como la forma del corazón o de Cupido, aunque con el auge de Internet se ha extendido la costumbre de intercambiar postales virtuales. También en este día es común la tradición de regalar rosas a aquellas personas a las que setiene un especial afecto.
Existen diversas teorías que otorgan a esta fecha el origen del Día de los Enamorados. En los países nórdicos es durante estas fechas cuando se emparejan y aparean los pájaros, de ahí que este periodo se vea como un símbolo de amor y de creación.
