Local Economic Development: Mesopartner is organizing the First Academy on Building Competitive Local Economies in Asia. The Asia Academy for an English-speaking audience will take place from 1 to 5 December 2008 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Please contact Ute D. IV International Symposium on Tropical and Subtropical Fruits from 3 to 7 November in Bogor, Indonesia. The Theme of the Symposium is “Fruits for better life”. The Symposium will review current progress and explore potential application in the research of tropical and subtropical fruits. The aims of the symposium are tofacilitate discussion and exchange of scientific and technical information and to promote international cooperation in all aspect of tropical and subtropical fruits, including both fundamental and applied aspects of research, extension, education, production and supply-chain management. CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
New! Ghana’s Ministry of Food and Agriculture(MOFA) adopts Value Chain approach in Policy. A sector development plan (2008-15) and strategic plan (2008-10) for implementation of FASDEP II, MOFA’s second Food and Agriculture Sector Development Policy framework, are also under preparation. A major policy decision in FASDEP II is the adoption of agri-business Value Chain (VC) approach as a tool for addressing national agro-food developmentchallenges. In this direction, MOFA and the Market Oriented Agriculture Programme (MOAP) of GTZ/DED have established a fruitful partnership aimed at building internal capacity of MOFA for effective mainstreaming of the value chain approach. A newly released CD of our ValueLinks Manual (revised first edition) can be requested at GTZ Head Office. In this context, all ValueLinks trainers and experts are invited to join our discussion about the development of Modul 8 (Financing Value Chains) of the Manual. [mb]
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) has receivedthree agric proposals in which gtz is involved, namely with regard to cashews (lead), cotton (co-lead), and cocoa (subgrantee). The final approval is still pending. However, we expect the respective decisions to be taken in October. In this regard, a publication about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which gives detailled information about the set-up, functioning, and influence of theFoundation, could be requested here. Bremerhaven Technology-Transfer-Centre (ttz). As a market oriented and independent provider of research services, ttz gives innovative ideas a home. They offer their clients applied research, development and practical implementation in the following fields: Food technology and bio process engineering, analytics as well as water, energy and land usemanagement.
