WALMART
Any company only can get a better profit tan others if it establish a difference that it can keep. Walmart has become one of the best company having a good quality in a competitive price.
SWOT Analysis.
Strengths
The main competitive advantage of WMT has been the capacity of keeping their prices lower than the competence. This has been possible, someway, thanks to the economies ofscale in their products and their focus on the supplier chain.
WMT was one of the first company in having a strategic use of the new technologies, which was letting them to share infotmation with their suppliers in real time and to get the more efficiency in order to save costs.
Their distribution places are 24hours open and they are placed in a strategic way so they can almost attend to150-200 shops in one day.
WMT also have its own truck fleet, while most of the competitors have to subcontract these functions.
Walmart also have a few competitive advantages in their shop operations: less advertising costs (lower than the average in that market), higher sales each square meter, less products each square meter and less operation costs.
Weaknesses
The only one weakness we can findin WMT is that it’s probably really difficult to manage such a huge company as WMT is. In particular, is really difficult to manage all the employees they have. And they also have to keep in the market their product, having cost leadership and product differentiation, so they must be prepared to manage the relations with suppliers and customers.
Opportunities
Their main opportunity probably isthe expansion in all the countries and forming partnerships in them. Also taking over companies in other countries as they did with ASDA in the UK.
Their capacity of creating convenience stores is also an important opportunity, having many little 24h stores in all around the world.
Threats
The main threats they have to fight against are in US, all kind of local stores in everyplace whereWalmart is, and all the convenience stores that other companies are starting to establish in different cities.
In Europe, their main competitors are the German companies expansion, ALDI and Lidl. These companies offer limited stock but are local and are cheap. ALDI is growing more and more having an efficiency market of 1000 items against the 20000 or 30000 items that WMT is offering.
For beingsuccessful, WMT doesn’t have any problem in attack other companies with non-ethical behavior, this means, low pay and poor work conditions, supply of goods from 'poor' cheap labour countries, and environmental issues.
