To difuse a geodata on internet
 

Diffusion of the geodata with Open Source tools Open Source tools used are Geospatial and CMS:

Geospatial tools are:
 

GIS desktop →Quantum GIS (QGIS) Web Mapping Applications → Mapfish Framework Joomla! (current version: 1.5.20)

Content Management System (CMS) :

A FTP Client will be used : Filezilla

Technical Demo

In words: 1- To extract a spatial data from internet 2- Use the functionnalities of an OS GIS Desktop 3- Transmission a data from the desktop to server 4- Insertion of a data in aWebMapping application client 5- Insertion of the WebMapping application in a CMS Portal

Technical Demo

With technical words: 1- Extraction of data in KML from Google Maps 2- Treatment of the KML file with QGIS 1.5 Tethys 3-The use of Filezilla for the transmission of the spatial data to the server 4- Insert of the data in a GeoExt application (Mapfish) 5- Insertion of the GeoExt applicationin a Joomla! Step 1 : extraction of data

To be 100% Open source, we can work with aLinux environment: Ubuntu 10.04
  

Available with a CD-Install on a Windows Station. It is available on the website of Ubuntu.

Web browser: Use of Mozilla firefox (not Internet Explorer)...

Aim: to make a geodata
  

It will be used Google Maps in order to make a data It is necessary to dispose of a loggin Connection to ''My Maps'' and make a new layer...
 

New shape, for example : urban area of Skopje Save

Export the KML but it is not the good KML. Open the KML, paste the link in Firefox and modify the URL link.

Delete the amp;

Enter the link without amp; to obtain the right KML.

You obtain the full KML file.

Enter the link without amp; to obtain the right KML.

You obtain the full KML file. Technical Demo

Step 2: Use of OS GIS

Open the QGIS 1.5
 

Available by Applications (Ubuntu/Mac OS ) It isnecessary to download here (all system) http://www.qgis.org/wiki/Download and here for Ubuntu (Ubuntu Karmic Koala version) http://www.qgis.org/wiki/Download#Ubuntu

Use of QGIS...

It is possible to use a WMS Service like this

http://osm.wheregroup.com/cgi-bin/osm_basic.xml?SERVICE=WMS&

from WhereGroup or demis.nl.

We add the KML file by the OGR service of QGIS.

Weadd the KML file by the OGR service of QGIS.

We obtain the KML file up to the WMS layers charged. You can discover all the functionnalities of QGIS... (geoprocessing, conversion, analysis...) It is time to change the attribute table of the KML file...
 

Convert the KML file in ESRI shapefile (standard) Select the shapefile, Toggle Editing, Properties of the layer...

Add a column ''Population''
Rename the attribute of the column: Name,Descriptio Close the ''Toogle Editing'' and Save.

Conversion your file ESRI Shapefile in GML (just on text file)
ESRI Shapefile = SHP, SHX, DBF,PRJ... GML = Geographic Markup Language (1 file)
