Looking for Alaska

This book is by far worse than ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ (but in the good way that breaks your heart andyou love it nonetheless) but it has a sense of closure ‘The Perks…’ didn't have. To me ‘Looking for Alaska’ was a mature version of ‘Bridge to Terabithia’—a movie I can’t seem to get over. Anyway,while I was reading ‘The Perks…’ I fell into a 24 hour depression because it was so sad and it didn't have a closure, but I was happy, and still sad—the point is that my emotions were all over the placeand I couldn't get a hold of them until the next day. ‘Looking for Alaska’ is another story…it’s been a month and a half and I still can’t get over that magically-sad-flawlessly-beautiful book JohnGreen has written (and is one of the many. So in between sobs I had an epiphany. I could never be as brave as Charlie (from ‘The Perks…’) or Pudge or The Colonel or Takumi or Lara when it comes to thedeath of a close friend—let alone a best friend. I would want to disappear for a while to feel numb until I’m well-composed to face the judgment of society.
It finally hit me that we have to cherishour old friend as much as the new. No matter how uptight they have become, or how they silently judge you for doing certain sinful things. I tend to distance myself from them because I get divertedwith the “new” crowd of friends and I easily forget how they stay with me through thick and thin. But not anymore; I’m hitting the breaks and getting myself out of this cycle before the ones who caredfirst become strangers.
