1. Find at least three similarities in the two cases presented in the videos.
* Both Jamey R. and Tyler Clementi were victims of bullying.
* Both committed suicide.
* Both were gays.2. What did you feel while watching them?
I felt that it is incredible how cruel people can be. Nowadays we live in a homophobic country, where people with different sexual orientations are beingdiscriminated just because they are different. I realized that it is important for all society to understand that all people, despite of their differences, should be treated equally.
3. Do youconsider that bullying is a type of discrimination? Explain.
Yes. On the one hand, we know that a person is bullied when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the partof one or more other persons, and he or she has difficulty defending himself or herself. On the other hand, discrimination is the prejudicial treatment of an individual based on their membership in acertain group or category. Bullying is a type of discrimination because it is based on prejudicial treatment of someone else.
4. Do you think that bullying should be penalized? Explain.
Yes,because it is not fair, for the persons that can be considered “different”, to be treated in a different way just because they don’t act in the same way that others do.
5. Research if in MEXICOthere are organizations that look after homosexuals and their families. What kind of services do they provide?
Yes, there are only three. One of those is the “Diversity Families” group. This groupoffers different services such as:
* Support groups
* Education
* Advocacy
6. What is the term given in Mexico for a gay marriage? Where can they get married?
* In Mexico, peopleuse the term “same-sex marriage” for a gay marriage.
