Deforestation Effect on Global Warming
How does the Earth stay warm and comfortable in the coldness of space? Temperatures on Earth are livable because of a natural process we call the greenhouseeffect. It starts when the sun’s radiation reaches our atmosphere. Some of this radiation (heat) is reflected back into space and some passes through and is absorbed by the Earth which causes thesurface of the Earth to warm up. Then, heat from the Earth is radiated outward and absorbed by “greenhouse gases” in the atmosphere which include carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. This processprevents heat from disappearing into space and keeps Earth warm enough to sustain life.
Although the greenhouse effect makes the earth able to have people living on it, if there gets to be too many ofthese gases, the earth’s atmosphere will trap too much heat and the earth will get too hot. Global warming refers to climate change that causes an increase in the average temperature of the loweratmosphere. Global warming can have many different causes, but it is most commonly associated with human interference, specifically the release of excessive amounts of greenhouse gases into theatmosphere. The more greenhouse gases there are, the larger the percentage of heat that is trapped inside the earth’s atmosphere.
Despite carbon dioxide (CO2) is a relative weak greenhouse gas, so much ofthis gas has been emitted since pre-industrial times that it has had the largest impact on the enhanced greenhouse effect and emissions continue to increase each year. In other words, we are pouringcarbon dioxide into the atmosphere much faster than plants and oceans can absorb it. Most people assume that the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is just caused by burning oil and gas. But infact, deforestation also plays a great role in the rapidly increase of the carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration in the atmosphere. As we know, rainforests play the important role of locking up...
