Resumen
La vagina y cerviz de las cerdas son estimuladas físicamente durante la inseminación. Este contacto puede afectar característicasreproductivas tales como el transporte espermático y el proceso de ovulación. En el presente trabajo se evaluaron desde el punto de vista económico y reproductivo, tres tipos de pipetas utilizadas para I. A. de cerdas de diferente material y forma. Se utilizaron 120 animales multíparos asignados de acuerdo a su orden de entrada al celo, en forma sucesiva a uno de tres grupos experimentales: 1) I. A.mediante pipeta reusable de hule tipo Melrose (Medata), 2) I. A. con pipeta desechable de punta plástica en espiral y 3) I. A. con pipeta desechable con punta de poliestireno redonda (Medi chimica). No se encontró diferencia (P>0.05) entre los porcentajes de gestación, parición y promedio de lechones nacidos vivos por parto, en el tiempo de aplicación del semen, ni en el volumen del mismo,arrojado por las cerdas en los 10 min. posteriores a la I. A. Los valores promedio fueron de: 91.7%, 86.7%, 10.4 ± 2.8, 7.8 ± 2.6 min. y 10.4 ± 11.3 ml, respectivamente. El análisis de regresión, no mostró significancia en cuanto a paridad en ninguna de las variables estudiadas (P>0.05). Se concluye que las pipetas evaluadas no difieren en su efecto sobre el desarrollo reproductivo de la piara. Sinembargo, la pipeta reusable tipo Melrose ofrece ventaja económica bajo las condiciones del presente estudio.

hundred and twenty mature sows were assigned according to the order they appeared in estrus, to one of the following experimental groups: 1) sows artificially inseminated with a softrubber reusable breeding spirette Melrose type (®Medata), 2) sows artificially inseminated with a disposable plastic spiral swine catheter and 3) sows artificially inseminated with a disposable catheter with tapered foam tip (®Medi chimica). No effect was found (P>0.05) in pregnancy and parturition rates, number of piglets born alive, time required to achieve each service nor in the volume of semenrejected by the sow during ten minutes after each A. I. The average values for these variables were: 91.7%, 86.7%, 10.4±2.8, 7.8±2.6 min and 10.4±11.3 ml, respectively. The regression analysis did not show any effect from parity in any of the variables evaluated (P>0.05). The results suggest that the different catheters evaluated did not differ in their effect on the reproductive performance of thesows. Nor does the stimulus in the reproductive tract of the sow due to the use of different types of catheters during A. I. affect swine reproductive performance in a significant way. Therefore, the use of the soft rubber reusable breeding spirette Melrose type might be favored as in the mean term these are more economical.
