S.A.D
Sometime ago I read that the word sad, that in Spanish means “triste”, comes from the initials of Seasonal Affective Disorder, so I decide to start my research from this point.
Here’s the definition (By Mayo Clinic Staff)
Seasonal affective disorder (also called SAD) is a type of depression that occurs at the same time every year. If you're like most people with seasonal affective disorder, yoursymptoms start in the fall and may continue into the winter months, sapping your energy and making you feel moody. Less often, seasonal affective disorder causes depression in the spring or early summer.
Treatment for seasonal affective disorder includes light therapy (phototherapy), psychotherapy and medications. Don't brush off that yearly feeling as simply a case of the "winter blues" or a seasonalfunk that you have to tough out on your own. Take steps to keep your mood and motivation steady throughout the year.

Feeling S.A.D?

Most of us feel depressed and gloomy at times, especially on dull, grey, winter days. We may moan and groan about it, but we’re hardly likely to rush offto the doctor’s surgery in research of sympathy or help. If you’re like me, you’re far more likely just to settle for feeling sorry for yourself, which I did, until I read an article about SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder.
I discovered that feeling miserable on a dark November morning isn’t necessarily a matter of giving in to self-pity but a person may actually have a recognized medicaldisorder. According to an article in a US health journal, researchers claim that millions of Americans are diagnose every year with a psychiatric condition now referred to as Seasonal Affective Disorder – SAD.
SAD may be a possible diagnosis in a patient suffering from depression that experiences feelings of anxiety and irritation. The sufferer may also complain of loss of energy and the inability toconcentrate. As a rule, the patient displays a lack of enthusiasm for life in general. Thus far, has a great deal in common with other depressive states.

However, what differentiates SAD from others a disorder is its seasonal nature. Patients are diagnosed with SAD only if the symptoms appear in at least two consecutive winters. Furthermore they must disappear in the interim seasons. Sincethe symptoms are similar to other disorders, it is important for doctors to eliminate other causes of mood swings and changes in behavior before arriving at final diagnosis.
One dark December morning, having slept particularly badly and without any other reason to feel that, I was feeling listless and disorientated, I was convinced I had SAD. With my mom’s help I dragged myself off to consult...
