Reinforcement English Activities
For the First Basic Student


Use alphabet letter cards for the following activities:

1. The Alphabet Song: lay the letter cards out on a table or the floorout of order; put letters in order as you sing the alphabet song
2. Letter and sound review: display the letters seen in class for example: m, r, s, t, l, o, p, a, n, b, k ,l, g, h, f, d, c, i, y,q, u, e, j, v, z, x, and w. Student give teacher the letter asked for based on sound or name. (vowel sounds are short not long a: apple i: igloo o: octopus e: elephant u: umbrella)
3. AlphabetBingo: create two or more BINGO grids of 9 squares (three across, three down for a total of 9 squares); distribute various letters on the board randomly. Winner is first player to get three in a row bysound of letter or by name.
4. Word Formation: make three letter words (c-v-c) example: cat sit pit sat mop, etc. Say the word, say the sounds used to form the word, repeat the word. Teacher says:“cat c-a-t cat.” Repeat until the student has successfully formed the word based on sounds.

Use a replica of the high frequency word cards for the following activities:
1. Memory Game: choose fouror five words that the child has difficulty with. Lay the words out on the table and read them to the student. Student repeats the words and then closes his/her eyes while to teacher removes a wordfrom the set. Student identifies the word that is missing. Repeat the activity various times changing the word order.
2. Sentence formation: Student puts a group of words in an order that forms asentence or the beginning of a sentence. For example: I like _________. We go to the _________. Etc.



Word Formation
Use the letter cards for these activities. These activities give a reviewof the short vowel sounds and the difficult consonants /j/, /y/, and /g/.
Parent instructions: Say the word. Ask the child to repeat the sounds in the word as she looks for the letters to form...
