What is the nature of the pleasure of smoking a cigarette? Smoking is a habit that few people get to understand, even smokers don’t know why they do it, and allthey know is that the joy of doing it is something that they cannot get from anything else. Smoking is as much a psychological pleasure as it is a physiological satisfaction. Most people startsmoking when they are in their teens, and they are addicted by the time they reach adulthood. Some have tried to quit, but have returned to cigarettes because smoking is such a strong addiction; it is ahabit very difficult to break. Without doubt smoking is deadly, but people continue to smoke because of nicotine addiction, social circumstances, and the need to cope with stress and anxiety.
Thefactors that influence the initiation of smoking differ from those reasons why people continue with the smoking habit. Most people start smoking because of peer pressure; also, according to studiesindicate that people who have parents who smoke are more likely to start the habit than those who don’t. After people begin the smoking habit; their own body starts to demand nicotine in order to feel well.Nicotine is a drug that causes a sensation of pleasure when is consumed by humans. Nitrogen –containing chemical- an alkaloid, this is made by several type of plants. When people consume this kindof drug, it artificially messes with the chemicals in their brains causing a feeling of pleasure and relaxation. Also, it affects mood and performance and is the source of addiction of tobacco. Itmeets the criteria of a highly addictive drug, in that it is a potent substance that induces euphoria, reinforces its own use and leads to nicotine withdrawal syndrome when it is absent.
