Abstract
The Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) has been serving initiatives and operators for years, to the unlimited satisfaction of its customers. However, the new IP-based standard developed by the IEEE 802.16 is expected to accelerate adoption of this new technology.
This technology will help to amplify the opportunity of usage thanks to the possibility of operating inlicensed and unlicensed frequency bands, the distinctive performance under Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) conditions, Quality of Service (QoS) awareness, and extension to nomadicity serving apparatus such laptops, cell phones, tablets, and more.
The Wimax forum, sponsored by industry leaders, will encourage the widespread adoption of broadband wireless access by establishing a brand for the technologyand pushing interoperability between products; and the purpose of this paper is to highlight the vast opportunities that this technology has to offer to the communication community and ultimately to us as a customer
Wimax is the solution for broadband, nomadic, portable and fixed, generated by flexible network architecture and radio access technology. Wimax uses the interface air SOFDMA(Scalable Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) that supports scalable bandwidth channels and the most outstanding features of Wimax are:
* High transfer rates. The inclusion of MIMO antennas architecture (Multiple In - Multiple Out, is an array of antennas where several transmit and several receiving signal) provides high data transfer rates.
* Quality of Service (QoS). One of theimportant features is the MAC (media access control) for Wimax architecture. The system may include MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) from end to end and mixed techniques of QoS over IP (Internet Protocol).
* Scalability. Wimax can work with different channel, which gives the advantage to accommodate the different global requirements.
* Security. This new technology supports variousaspects of security and authentication EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) encryption AES-CCM (Advanced Encryption Standard - Counter with Cipher-block chaining Message authentication code) and protection schemes CMAC (Block Cipher-based Message Authentication Code) and HMAC (Keyed Hash Message Authentication Code).
* Mobility. Wimax, bear handover with one low latency, less than 50 MS willbe able to provide real-time applications like VoIP without degradation of the service. (Wimax, 2011)(Karanasios & Allen, 2010)
Parallel technologies to Wimax
Broadband will have an expandable demand and thus will ascend a number of options from different manufacturers and providers that will intent to win this niche; I will names some
of the technologies that go in parallel (3G...
