Location
The human body has specifically two adrenal glands, they are located in top of the kidneys, they are in a capsule made of tissues that is located usually in anisland of fat. These glands are located down the peritoneum.
Function
The adrenal glands are essential for the endocrine system. They produce a lot of hormones that makean important work in the stress response, metabolism and the balance of salt and water in all human´s body. These glands produce hormones that human can live without,including the sex hormones, and cortisol hormones which help with the response to the stress system.
Disorders
Some disorders can cause that the adrenal glands produce toomuch or not enough hormones to your body. The Cushing´s syndrome is too much cortisol produced, while the Addison´s disease is too little production. Some people born withproblems to produce enough cortisol, other people develop some kinds of tumors that also cause disorders in the glands. Infections also can cause fatal problems in theglands if the treatment is not quick.
Hormones
The hormones produced by the adrenal glands are: estrogen, progesterone, steroids, cortisol and cortisone, and some chemicalssuch as adrenalin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. When the glands produce more hormones than normal, disease may occur.
