Children & Youth
Amelia spent much of his childhood with his maternal grandparents, who provided a lifestyle full of comfort while his father pursued asuccessful career in the legal field, which failed. His grandfather was a prominent citizen of Atchison and never saw with good eyes to his son, whom he considered useless.
Amelia showed signs of a restless and bold personality, then got involved in activities of the boys, climbing trees, sledding and shot rats with a rifle. He also had a hobby collecting newspaper clippings of famous women whoexcelled in traditional activities featuring men.
It was in 1908 when he saw his first airplane in an Iowa State Fair, when he moved to Des Moines with his parents. In his memoirs wrote about his first encounter with an airplane: "It was a thing made of rusty wire and wood, nothing interesting."
Due to family and financial problems (his father became an alcoholic and he was fired from his job), thestatus of Earhart was deteriorated, so she moved to Chicago with his mother and sister in 1914. During the First World War he enlisted as a volunteer in nursing work.
In 1920 his family could meet again in California, where he attended an air show at Long Beach and fell in love with airplanes. He got a ride aboard a biplane which flew for ten minutes about Los Angeles. His words about thisexperience were: "As soon as we took off I knew I had to fly from now on."

His first flying lessons obtained from the instructor Anita Neta Snook, another pioneer pilot. During that time managed to acquire a prototype Kinner airplane which he called "el Canario", which suffered the odd accident, a common thing at that time by the unreliability of the engines and slow ships. Hisinstructor did not give much credibility as a pilot, a view not abandon his career. In October 1922 and got his first altitude record by flying at 14,000 feet (4267 meters) high.
Amelia left for a while aviation and bought a car, which got the nickname "The Yellow Peril '(' the Yellow Peril '), which took her mother across the country headed for Boston. As the motor still new, people are interested inher and asked where he came from.
In 1925 he joined the National Aeronautic Association (Boston Chapter). He devoted himself to spend money to build a runway, Kinner aircraft sold and promoted aviation, especially among women. Already beginning to make a name in society. The Boston Globe's recognized as one of the best pilots in the United States.
Years of brands and Recognition
On April 26,1927, Amelia received a call that changed his life: Captain HH Railey asked if he wanted to be the first woman to cross the Atlantic. George Putnam, a New York writer, had asked him if he knew a suitable woman for that company. Railey was struck by the similarity of Earhart with Charles Lindbergh, so called Lady Lindy. Putnam, when he met Amelia, the woman admitted it for the trip. She accepted oncondition of going as a passenger.
With pilot Wilmer Stultz and Louis Gordon as a mechanic, went on a three-engined Fokker F. VII, which they called Friendship (friendship). Amelia was just as fleeting.
