Cargo unitization

Cargo Unitization.
The unitization is the merchandise groupage in superior unities of cargo, as method of facilitate its transport, this is why this merchandise must conserve its perfect state asmuch as posible, while transporting it. This process speeds up the handling and also reduces the ammount of labour required to move the merchandise. The palletization and containarization are the mostcommon ways of cargo unitization.
• Palletization:

the unitization in pallets represents one of the first attempts of cargo unitization, which consists in to place or anchor a cargo upon a platformbuilt with flat Wood or metal frames, this platform is called “Pallet” which have a standard size. This method of unitization allows the cargo to be easily handled.
The Pallet, is a cargo platform,which basically consists in two bases separated between them, or a single base resting on an enough high bracket to allow its hadling through freight trucks or palleters. This unitization method ismost commonly used in developing countries.

Some characteristics of the pallet are:

 Resistance to misstreatmen and accidental damages.
 Capacity of supporting the cargo without bendingitself.
 Resist handling and packaging without breaking itself.
Some advantages of palletization are (multiple use):
 During the production process.
 During the transportation of godos inside theorigin country or its destiantion country.
 While warehousing.
 In the international transport according to the distribution chains.
 This unitization method is cheaper (equipment) if you comparewith another unitization ways.


• Containarization:
