April 26th, 2000

There I was watching my fathers life-less body being thrown into the pit of bones, The pit of bones is a pit where the body’s of the deceased are thrown but the pit of bones isonly for the town. It was very hard seeing this right before my eyes It was disturbing and also sad.

April 27th, 2000

I am still grieving over my fathers death right now I feel I just want to killmyself to be with him, the only thing stopping me is the state that my family is in. Someone is going to have to do something because we are just surviving on the little we have.

April 28th, 2000Ach’mad was the one effected the most by our fathers death. My 11 year old twin tried to kill himself with a kitchen knife. Luckily, Analiah, my 13 year old sister snatched it from him before hecould stab himself. After everybody was calmed down, mother said something that sent a chill down my spine: “We’re running out of food and money!”

April 29th, 2000

“What do you mean we’rerunning out of food and money!”,yelled Ach’mad breaking into tears again. Analiah sat next to him to reassure him that everything was going to be alright.

April 30, 2000

Ach’mad and I werepacking our old school bag with hunting supplies like knifes and some tools to make traps, prayer rugs so that we could pray properly and a first aid kit. This they didn’t need it as much because fatherhad taught Mahamad emergency procedures.

May 1st, 2000

Today during morning prayer I prayed to Allah that we would give us a save journey into the desert. I hope he grants my prayer. I also hope Idon’t have the same fate as father and be assassinated.

May 2nd, 2000

Today is my first day with Ach’mad in the desert all by ourselves. Remember Ach’mad, I said we’re looking for food, notenemies. If you see something edible tell me. We will always be together. We will not separate if you fell uncomfortable just tell me I might be able to help okay yes said Ach’mad nervously.
