Lend
Mybrother lent me this book. (He is the owner of the book, and he gave it to me for a determined period of time).
Banks usually lend money.

Wait
Means that you do something until something elsehappens.
Example:
I'm waiting for the bus.
Wait for me!
I will wait until she comes back.
Hope
Means that you want something to happen.
Example:
I hope to arrive in a week (you are not certainbut you want to).
I hope everything goes well.
I hope you come.

Spend
You spend money or time on something.
Example:
He has spent a lot of money on his car.
She spends her time reading.
WasteYou waste money or time on something. Waste means to spend badly.
Example:
He has wasted a lot money on things like that.
She wastes her time playing silly games.

Lay
To beat or strike downwith force.
Example:
Hens lay eggs.
The maid was laying the table when I arrived.
Lie
Tell a lie, not tell the truth
Example:
If you lie to me, I won't believe in you anymore.
Don't lie! Tellme the truth!

Fewer
Means "a smaller number" and it's used with countable nouns.
Example:
There were fewer people at the bank this morning.
This year fewer foreigners have arrived at ourcountry.
Fewer planes have landed at the old terminal.
Less
Means "a smaller amount" and it's used with uncountable nouns.
Example:
You should eat less salt.
Now that he works, he has less time toread.
He was paid less money than he expected.

Do
Relates to general actions.
Example:
You have to do these exercises for tomorrow.
I want you to do these exercises for tomorrow.
This won't doyou any harm.
Make
Relates to causing or creating something.
Example:
I've made a cake.
I'd like to make you an offer.
He made me read that book.
I was made to read that book.
