* Phonology:
Phonology is a branch of linguistics concerned with the systematic organization of sounds in languages. The sound system involves
*the actual pronunciation of words, which can be broken up into the smallest units of pronunciation, known as a segment ora phoneme. (the words pat, chat and fat have different phonemesat the beginning, and so phonemes contrast with each other to produce different words.)
* prosody – pitch, loudness, tempo and rhythm – the ‘music’ of speech. (Other termsused are non-segmental phonology or supra-segmental phonology.)
* Phonetics:
Is the science of speech. Is the basic of phonological analysis. Analysis the productionof all human speech sounds regardless of language. Study the analyzes the provide sounds.
* Phoneme:
A minimal unit that serves to distinguish between meaning of words.* In human language, a phoneme is the smallest unit of speech that distinguishes meaning.
* Phinemes are not the physical segments themselves, but abstractions ofthem.
* The /t/ sound found in words like tip, stand, writer, and cat are examples of phonemes.
* Sound:
Alphabetic spelling represents the pronunciation ok words.However, the sounds of the words in language are unsystematically represented by orthography.
* The English language is not phonetic. Words are not spelled as they arepronounced.
* There is not one correspondence between the letters and the sounds of phonemes.
* Pronunciation:
The act or manner of pronouncing words; utterance ofspeech. A way of speaking a word, especially a way that is accepted or generally understood. graphic representation of the way a word is spoken, using phonetic symbols.
