WHAT CAN WE DO WHEN THE STUDENTS MAKE ERROR?

When the students are wrong, they have two alternating; be corrected or continue be wrong. As a teacher is necessary to know what are the best ways tocorrect student´s error. This is so important because the teacher most provide to the students an appropiate learning of the language through the errors. In this essay I am going to develop some mainstages which will guide to the teacher in this difficult task, make that students confront the error without traumas nor complex , indicate the student where the error is, and saying what kind oferror they make.

According to Blanco (1999), in the learning process, there are many obstacles that the students must overcome, but it is exactly that problem and the satisfaction of overcome it, thereason that helping the students to continue. As teacher the task is helping them in this way. One of the most important thing that the teacher has to do is, to teach that making error also they learn.But, on the contrary, if the students feel all the time that they are evaluated and punished they will create their own defence strategys: they will often use the dictionary to check if the usedwords exist, they will be obsessed with the grammar exercises, they will have some escape strategy to hide their problems or they won’t want neither speaking nor writing because they are afraid of makingerror. The teacher with this situation must promote some activities where are analyzed the student’s opinions about making error. Probably with this activity students will get a new and positiveperception about it.

“The students learn more effectively if they are guided to correct themselves”. (Gower, 1983). The teacher as a guide must indicate them where the error is, for example. If thestudent says I See Sara Yesterday and he means I Saw Sara Yesterday then teacher has to tell the student try again can be of no use.
