HISTORICAL FRAMEWORK

In 1992 the Assemblies of God Christian University have been teaching profesorado in English until 1997. During this period the students were taking without any problem the following subjects: Intensive English I, general pedagogy, general philosophy, general psychology, theology I, Intensive English II, general didactic, philosophy of education, psychologyapplied to education, and theology II, these were the subjects of the first year that students were studying.

In the second year the students had to take the following subjects: Intensive English III, curriculum development, professional ethics, methodology for teaching English in kindergarten and practice level, mathematic, Intensive English IV, English grammar I, Bible studies inEnglish, methodology for teaching English at the secondary level and practice, and statistical.

The last year students had taken the following subjects: Reading and conversation, grammar II, English phonetic, methodology for intensive English teaching and practice, assessment of learning foreign languages, general linguistic, English composition, Composition and grammar in Spanish,methodology for the teaching and practice of technical English, and Missiology. These were the 30 subjects that students had to study in three years. (See the subjects’ flowchart in the annexes).

In the university received a visit from MINED, and was evaluated, and unfortunately the profesorado in English didn´t fulfill with the requirements about the study of plans that is why this universityhad to closed it.

The authorities of the university didn´t give up in spite of the problems, they continued working, they wanted to see something better that is why they started to work and make de study of plans for an English career. The subjects for this career that they planned are the following:

In the first year of the career the subjects are: Intensive English I, theology,general didactic I, psychology I, Intensive English II, ethics and professional development, general didactic II, psychology II.

In the second year: Intensive English III, English grammar I, English language didactic I, computing I, statistic I, Intensive English IV, English grammar II, English language didactic II, computing II, and statistic II.

In the third year: Reading andconversation in English I, English composition I, educational planning, curriculum design, education administration, general linguistic, English composition II, professional practice I, Learning Assessment and means, and curriculum development.

Fourth year: English phonetic, English seminar, professional practice II, translation techniques, diachronic linguistic, simultaneous translation English-Spanishand Spanish- English, professional practice III, legislation education.

In the last year: Reading of English language, English managerial, professional Practice IV, methods and techniques for researching I, TOEFL preparation, professional Practice V, methods and techniques for researching II, and seminar about English Language Learning problems; besides, the 500 of social hours. ( see thisstudy of plans in the annex part).
This was the study of the plan for English career. In 2004 was presented this plan to MINED, and was approved it. And in 2005 the university was offering to students the new English career.

Projects of English Major Degree.

The career of English Major have been offering, and participating in the following projects that help to our community, andstudents:

* Call Center: Training to the students and people who are interesting in work in a call center. The responsible to give this course is Lic Mauricio Alexander Martinez because of the experience. This Diplomado Especializado en Call Center offers two module:

* Verbal expression. - Interview protocol.
* Costumer. - Technical support....
