On the novel we see that Jonathan never gave up even though his family and friends didn't support his decision of wanting to be different and wanting to find the real meaning of life for him.The voices of his mom and dad were the hard, well is not easy to see you parents don't belief in you, but his inner voice was the real one that makes him stop his passion. He had this big chain thatsay seagull are limited by nature, if I was meant to learned so much I will have charts for brain, or if I was meant to fly at speed I will have falcon's short wings and so on. But after he think andanalyzed the decision he had made, he understand that he had to opened the chain that his own mind was creating, and so he did, he start practicing every day and night until he was the best. Even forhim he was never the best, he always wanted more.
On the novel we will also see the term of perfection it is understand when Jonathan meet the Great Gull, Chiang. We see Jonathan never conformswith what they show him, but he looks for a reason of liking what he does and a purpose to love his life. At this point we know that living is to reach out and to touch perfection in that which they mostloved to do and that perfection is not about not making mistakes but about learning from them and growing as a person. Its just being there and believing you can do it.
