Generation Screwed
“I definitely won´t be able to do better than my parents ... (or) to afford a house like my mother has.”[1]
It seems that new ages are for old ages. Its never been sodifficult for young graduates the life after college. The lack of jobs and the increased competition have left apart the young (18-34 years) americans. This new generation as the article says, has beenscrewed by their parents; they left them a broken economy and a fiscal profligacy. Take for example that the unemployment rate for citizens under 35, 12% is nearly fifty percent above the US nationalaverage. They are by long way who have lost.
Not only they find it everyday more difficult to find a job. But most of them (Even graduates with high degrees) don´t practice their profession, Indeedsome end working as a valet in a hotel or as waiters. How come will they do as well as their parents when they don´t even practice what they studied for. In fact their low income will never be enough forthe raised prices for house holding, since they have increased a 45% the las three decades. To sum something else to the list; studies throw a shocking fact: The average student debt to the banks isno more, no less than $27´000 each. Not only they don´t have job yet, but they already have a huge debt. The few jobs that open they are all taken by the older generation, whom seem more prepared.Without jobs for younger generations they will always be.
It seems there is not light at the end of the road. Not even the best education gets you a sure job. Nearly a third of the people between 18and 34 years have gone back to their parents house because they cant afford living alone.
“I have been applying for five jobs a week and have gotten nothing but rejections.”
“That new generationsmust lower its expectation” some say. And lets hope they do because the facts seem clear. They will have it screwed.
