Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863 and died in April 7, 1947. He was the first son of the other 5 children of William Ford and Mary Ford. He grew up on a prosperous economical family farm inDearborn, Michigan. Henry enjoyed a good typical childhood in the 19th century, basically studying and helping his family with the farm work but he didn’t like it so much; fortunately at an early age hebegan to show interest in mechanical works.
At the age of 16, Ford left home and went to a nearby city called Detroit, where he worked as an apprentice of machines, although he had the opportunity tovisit his family. He remained an apprentice for three years in Detroit and then returned to home. During the next few years Henry worked operating and repairing steam engines, finding occasional work ina Detroit factory.
In 1891, Henry became an engineer in The Edison Illuminating Company (EIC); this event signified a really important decision on Henry's part to dedicate his life to industrialdiscoveries. His promotion to Chief Engineer in gave him all the opportunities, enough time and money to the correct attention to his personal experiments on internal combustion engines.
Theseexperiments finally conclude in 1896 with the completion of his own self-propelled vehicle, the Quadricycle. The Quadricycle had four wheels that looked like heavy bicycle wheels, was steered with a tillerlike a boat, and had only two forward speeds with no reverse.
Ford was not the first to build a self-propelled vehicle with a gasoline engine; but he was one of many automobile pioneers who helped thiscountry become a nation of motorists; the first one, was Karl Benz creating the famous brand, Mercedes Benz.
After two failed tries to establish a company to create massively automobiles, the FordMotor Company was incorporated in 1903 with Henry Ford as vice-president and chief engineer. The little company produced only 4 cars per day at the Ford factory on Mack Avenue in Detroit. Groups of...
