Life on a Yucatan Farm.
Thousands of years ago the mayas came from the Yucatan Peninsula. In the middle of the vast Yucatan jungle they built new cities, temples and palaces. But their cities weredestroyed by civil war, they were abandoned and reclaimed by de jungle. Their gods were gods of nature, the greatest was Chac, the god of rain.
Ricardo and Adela Pot live in San Luis they and morepeople visit Tizimin the 12th day after Christmas for the Epiphany and the festival of the three kings. The mayas are very Christian. The festival centers around the cathedral. All the pilgrims mustfirst buy a candle before entering into the cathedral. Outside the cathedral, Adela and Ricardo watch a procession of banners carried by pilgrims. While returning to the village, Ricardo and Adela watcheda bullfight, where the small bulls and young matadors were inexperienced so no one got hurt. Their family is very large. It includes older brothers, their wives, nieces and nephews, all livingtogheter.
A tipical day begins at sunrise, with the making of tortillas, feeding the animals, Marco gathering wood for the cooking fire and they get water from the well. When Ricardo finish his chores hehas time for spinning his top. Adela spends her last minutes of the day studying for school. She knows that she must live in a new world. A world of change for the Mayans.

Labor Day.
Like manycountries around the world, United States has established a day for commemorating all the workers. We remember all the hardships and struggles they must had. Labor day is a holiday established to honorall the working people. Each year it falls on the first Monday in September.
Before 1850, the children of many working people couldn’t get an education because there were few schools. There weremany people without job because there were more workers than jobs. The factories were dirty and dingy also overcrowded. The workers froze during the winter and sweltered in summer.
