Guía para el Examen TOEFL
INSTRUCCIONES Este examen deberá ser presentado antes de las inscripciones por los alumnos que soliciten ingreso a cualquier carrera profesional. OBJETIVO DEL EXAMEN Este examen tiene como objetivo medir las habilidades de los solicitantes en el manejo del idioma inglés. METAS DEL PROGRAMA DE INGLÉS El programa tiene como meta cualitativa lograr que el alumno desarrollelas habilidades lingüísticas necesarias para alcanzar el dominio del idioma inglés desde un nivel básico hasta un nivel avanzado, lo que le permitirá comunicarse efectivamente en forma oral y escrita en situaciones académicas. El programa tiene como meta cuantitativa que el alumno logre obtener al término de los cuatro cursos remediales un puntaje igual o superior a 470 puntos en el examen TOEFL(Test of English as a Foreing Language) y al término del Curso Sello de inglés un puntaje igual o superior a 520 puntos en dicho instrumento. Descripción del Programa El programa consta de 5 cursos: cuatro a nivel remedial y un curso curricular considerado como Curso Sello dentro del plan de estudio de las carreras profesionales. El Curso Sello se presenta en tres modalidades dependiendo del niveldel alumno.

Cada curso tiene una duración total de 80 horas, impartiéndose con una frecuencia de 5 horas por semana.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a 2-Hours, 140 question test that is used as an entrance requirement for universities in Canada and the United States. The Basic TOEFL is divided into three parts: Listening Comprehension (fifty questions); Structureand Written Expression (forty questions) ; Reading Comprehension (fifty questions). The following is a description of the format of the basic TOEFL (Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, and reading Comprehension). OBJETIVO Y EJEMPLIFICACIÓN DE CADA TEMA I Listening Comprehension Time 35 minutes Listening Comprehension is the first section of the TOEFL. Here, you are requiredto answer questions of three different types. You listen to the questions only one time. The following is a description of the three different types divided in three parts. PART A Directions : In Part A you will hear short conversations between two people. After each conversation, you will hear a question about the conversation. The conversations and question will not be repeated. After you hear aquestion, read the four possible answers in your workbook and choose the best answer. Then, on your answer sheet, find the number of the question and fill in the space that corresponds to the letter of the answer you have chosen.

Listen to the example On the recording, you hear: (woman) I don´t like this painting very much (man) Neither do I (narrator) What does the man mean? In your workbookyou read: a) He doesn´t like the painting either. b) He doesn´t know how to paint. c) He doesn´t have any paintings. d) He doesn´t know what to do. You learn from the conversation that neither the man nor the woman likes the painting. The best answer to the question, “What does the man mean?” is (a), “He doesn´t like the painting either”. Therefore, the correct choice is (a). PART B Directions :In this part of the Practice Test, you will hear longer conversations. After each conversation, you will hear several questions. The conversations and questions will not be repeated. PART C Directions : In this part of the Practice Test, you will hear several talks. After each talk, you will hear some questions. The talks and questions will not be repeated. After you hear a question, read the fourpossible answers in your workbook and choose the best answer. Then, on your answer sheet, find the number of the question and fill in the space that corresponds to the letter of the answer you have chosen. Here is an example: On the recording, you hear: (narrator) Listen to an instructor talk to his class about a television program.
