Strategies for competitive advantages: The importance of chain supply and distribution.



Inbound logistics has morphedfrom a domestic to a global challenge; as Robert Sturim says (1999): “Today, rather tan companies competing against companies, supply chains compete against supply chains”. And that is true, becausenowadays the election and maintenance of the right supply chain, which involves distribution networks, transportation, manufacturers, logistics team, etc, are key to keep a company competitive andsuccessful in the complicate business environment that we face.

Some experts believe that the most important issue here is the information, statement that I agree. The share of information across allthe chain supply will bring improves to the system; companies try to avoid in many cases the share of much information because they think they would become weaker in the negotiation process with allsuppliers and manufacturers, but on the contrary, they will set up new and better relationships with all their supply chain and that will bring better response to the company to any change in consumersneeds and market changes.

A right distribution network will make the company save money in costs of physical products transportation and can also reduce the time it takes to bring theproducts to retailers and final consumers. A company can cut the distances by changing the distribution routes.

Nowadays, many companies are going to China looking for cheap manufacturers but now demandis becoming as high that companies have to take special attention if they want to save money.
