Written Analysis Elderly Words
This written analysisabout the documentary "The Elderly Words" is contrasted with the chapter three from Patrick Moran´s book. Taking in count the five dimensions of culture which are products, practices, perspectives,communities, persons, and also, the Iceberg of culture where we can observe which of those dimensions are explicit or tacit in Tayrona´s communities like Koguis.
To start with the contrast I willdivide analysis in two parts. First I will talk about the four dimensions which are the explicit ones and finally, I will talk about the tacit one.
Explicit Dimensions
Products: the products are theartifacts produced or adopted by the community including things from the environment like plants and animals. For instance: the coca or Jañiu, horses, Poporos, quilts, tutusomas, shacks and Rucksacks.Practices: Comprise all the actions and interactions that the members of the culture carry out; for example, Koguis grown, collect or gather coca that they stored in their rucksacks in order toexchange it when they meet someone as a greeting. They also put into the Poporo shells powder and crushed coca, then they mix and they use to eat it all day.
Communities: Includes the circumstances andgroups in which members carry out the cultural practices. In this case we are talking about Koguis but as we know Koguis are part of the Tayrona’s families which also includes Arawaks, Arsarios,kuankuamos and Wiwas. Who live on the Caribbean coast, between Ciénaga Grande and Río Palomino and up the lower slopes of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
Persons: are the individual members who embodythe culture and its communities in a unique way that in case of Koguis are the Mamos who are like priests or shamans in their culture and are in charge of being the guides and keep the balance...
