RelationshipRelationship is an interesting topic that encompasses many aspects, in which situations vary from people to people, family to family, country to country with no universal rules. Along this thread, we talked about dating, parental control, sex, teen pregnancies and sex education that revealed some thought-provoking differences.

How relationship is perceived and received In India, the issue ofdating depends on the family you are from and the type of views they have. Some young people may not be able to tell their parents about dating since they really wouldn’t understand, while in some families it is well accepted.

Though relationship is not very common in high schools of China, it is not rare. There seems to be a difference among regions that parents are less conservative inSouth than in North. The difference in the style of schools may contribute to teachers' attitude (e.g., in foreign language schools teachers tend to be more open-minded), but it also depends on their generation and personality. In Germany it is usually not a problem for parents that their teenage children start to have a relationship, while sometimes young couple’s parents meet each other and becomefriends. It is not a problem that the girl sleeps in her boyfriend’s place or vice versa, in the same room and in the same bed. In Chile things are a little different from that in Germany, and more like in Mexico. The most general situation is that parents try to control their children's relationships (not completely, of course). It is not acceptable for example to let young couple sleep in asingle bed. In many countries within that relationship it is very possible that sexual intercourse has taken place or any othersexual activity. In the US between ages 13 and 14 sex is definitely in the picture of a relationship. In Chile the age of the initiation of sexual life is at 16 or 17 years old, according to some surveys by the INJUV (National Institute of Young People). It seems that in Germany they start more or less at the same age, the average is 16. In India the general trends are very similar that

4 teenagers could lose their virginity anywhere between 16-19 years old. In India statistics show that teenagers do use protection and are responsible about sex so that instances of teen-pregnancies are unheard of, while in Chile a scholar got pregnant may be expelled from religious school and considered a shame for the family. Nevertheless, teen-pregnancy is a reason for stronger parental control ofgirls than boys. Though it also depends on how much parents trust the education, values and responsibility sense of their children, in general girls are more controlled by their parents than boys do. One thing to remind is that it seems that in all our societies women are called hores when having many sexual partners, while men are seen as heroes (a little exaggerating though) or at least it...
