RESUMEN: Muchos economistas creen que la actual situación económica española se debe a una pérdida decompetitividad. Para contrastar esta hipótesis, el presente trabajo examina un conjunto de indicadores utilizados habitualmente para evaluar la competitividad. El primero de ellos, la competitividad-precio que se ha deteriorado significativamente como consecuencia del diferencial de inflación con los demás países de la zona euro y del bajo crecimiento de la productividad. En segundo lugar, la cuota deexportaciones netas, que se han visto truncadas en los últimos años. Finalmente se examina el contenido de las inversiones realizadas en los últimos lustros, que se han centrado en bienes no productivos, debido a las expectativas de default. En definitiva, España parece haber perdido competitividad en los últimos años. Corregir esta situación requiere mejorar el crecimiento de la productividad, reducir eldiferencial de inflación con la zona euro y establecer un entorno que incentive la innovación. ABSTRACT: Many economists believe that the current Spanish economic situation is due to a loss of competitiveness. To test this hypothesis, this paper examines a set of commonly used indicators for assessingcompetitiveness. The first, the price competitiveness has deteriorated significantly as a result of the inflation differential with other countries in the euro area and low productivity growth. Secondly, the share of net exports, which have been dashed in recent years. Finally it examines the contents of the investments made in recent decades, which have focused on non-productive, due to expectations ofdefault. In short, Spain seems to have lost competitiveness in recent years. Correcting this situation requires improved productivity growth, reduce inflation differential with the euro area and establish an environment that encourages innovation.
