Headstock Tuner Instructions
Congratulations on your purchase of the Planet Waves
Headstock. The Headstock Tuner precisely tunes guitars,
basses and other stringed instruments utilizing vibrations
rather than sound. By using a highly sensitive piezo transducer, the vibrations of the instrument areread directly
by the tuner without the need for a microphone or electrical connection. This design allows you to tune easily and
accurately in noisy environments without interference
from extraneous sound sources that can cause other
tuners to fail in these situations. The back-lit display
allows you to tune in any type of lighting situation, from
well-lit studios to dimly lit stages.Take the time to read the
instructions to become more familiar with the Planet
Waves Headstock Tuner...Enjoy!

Battery
Your tuner comes complete with a CR2032 battery. To
insert the battery, turn the tuner over so that the clamping
arm is facing up. Squeeze the lever to open up the clamp
and loosen the battery door with a coin or screwdriver.
Place the battery in the battery compartmentwith the “+”
side facing up. Replace battery cover by lining up the two
small dots on the battery door and tuner body and turn
the battery door to the locked position.

Calibration
The Headstock tuner defaults to the industry standard
A440 tuning frequency. In order to calibrate the tuner
to another setting, simply press the calibrate button on
the rear side of the tuner display. Witheach press of the
button, the reference pitch will change in 1Hz increments.
Continually press the calibrate button until the desired
pitch is displayed. The tuner will now tune to the selected
frequency.

Operation
• First place the tuner on any part of the instrument that vibrates.
For guitars and basses this will most likely be the headstock of
the instrument. For bowed instruments, attach the tuner to the
bridge of the instrument. Experiment with different placements
to see where you get the best results.
• Press the power button on the top of the tuner to turn the
tuner on. At first the display will be dimly lit until it senses
an input vibration.
• Play a note to be tuned. At this time the display will fully light,
showing the pitch detected and the pitchaccuracy utilizing
3 meter indicators. If the note being tuned is either flat or sharp,
the back-lit display will be red in color indicating that the note
detected is not in tune. Tune the string so that the meter
indicators move towards the center of the display. The note
is in tune when the center indicator is lit along with one
indicator on each side of the note display and the back-litdisplay turns green.
• Repeat these steps for each note to be tuned.
• The tuner automatically shuts down after a period of inactivity
to preserve battery life.

Tips for tuning
• Pluck the string with a light to moderate stroke. Strings will
usually go slightly sharp right after the initial attack. Excessive
or heavy plucking of the string will increase this effect. Give the
string asecond to “settle” before tuning.
• Pluck the string with the flesh of your thumb. This will yield less
harmonic information for the tuner to analyze than when using
a pick.
• Try clipping the tuner to different locations on the instrument
as some areas may resonate more than others.
