What is Globalization? Why go global? How does globalization affect Human Resources Management (HRM)?

The globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies,and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology. It a business expand its sales or production beyond the nationallimits.

Globalization has favorable cost, access to international markets, response to change in demand, reliable sources of supply.

Globalization has influenced on HRM in all aspect: Recruitment,selection, training, motivation, compensations, and quality management. The globalization has meant that when company open division in other country some of its employees must be mobilized to takeover the company.

When going global, a business has to reconsider the following aspect: (1) Employment Laws, (2) Culture, (3) Terminology, and (4) Corporate Social Responsibility.

CulturalVariation include: Self & space, time, appearance & eating, relationships (Individualistic Vs collective, power, uncertainty avoidance), learning & motivation, leadership, communication. Human Resourcesactivities is: Terminology: (Expatriates, host-country national, third-country national), recruitment & staffing, training & development (culture shock Vs cultural, convergence),compensation(localization, home country base, balance sheet approach), safety and health, employee and labor relations.

Barriers to Successful Global Human Resources Management is political and legal factors,cultural factors, economic factors, labor relations, global HRM The important aspects for global business is need manage change, need to respect local cultures, understand a corporation’s culture, beflexible and need to learn. HRM has challenges; high failure rates of expatriation and repatriation, deployment, knowledge and innovation dissemination, identify capable people who are able to function...
