In times of slavery in the U.S. black communities developed a musical potential in the prevailing religious chants and rhythms that marked the days of workin the various plantations who lived at that time. A musical level the influence of African rhythms and sounds were present creating a diverse style and thenmaterialized in the blues, which became the musical ingredient that would revolutionize the music later worldwide. Furthermore the influence of whitemusicians through the music genre called country and the emergence of the electric guitar would give birth to what is called rhythm and blues, father of rock androll. One of his predecessors was Muddy Waters in 1949.

So we can say that this genre comes from the combination of American folk genres such as blues, country, rhythm and blue, western, boogie woogie and jazz among others. Occurred in the U.S. in the early '50s.

It is difficult to determine which artistsdid this genre, although most believe that Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran and Bil Haley were those who founded it. The greatest exponents of this genre are: TheBeatles, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Bon Dylan, among others.

Within this style, the essential musical instruments are the drums, guitar and piano. It is characterized by polyphony, on the irregular tempo, improvisation, intonation dirty and chords similar to the blues. His lyrics are often laden withideology which, unlike pop, are intended for a specific social sector.

Personally my favorite song in this genre is Sweet Child O 'Mine from Guns N' Roses.
